And that was selfish. On the other hand, I also put way too much pressure on other relationships and then things would implode. Trust your gut. I wish I had said yes more. I was so quick to judge and size people up from the get-go. I think there were a lot of missed opportunities to simply hang out with interesting people. But being single is hard and can really suck.

It can force you to be more present and aware; to love yourself and become motivated. I feel blessed that I had the opportunity to be a single girl in New York in her twenties and everything that goes along with that. I loved meeting new friends, traveling, and learning a new language. Single life was great but I definitely dealt with loneliness.

I liked being single, but I hated being lonely. Having a good positive group of friends and also writing, creating. And then, the person you end up with checks off all the boxes and then some. Sometimes really well and sometimes not well. And then other times it would really hit me that I was lonely and it was awful. As cliche as it sounds, my girlfriends were huge.

I was able to spend time with them and focus on my friendships and it was amazing. I will say that I never had to use any apps. Thank God for that, right? New York can be very isolating. It was overwhelming. A different opportunity. A more interesting person. So, I got gun shy about that early on. I always wanted a friendship to turn into a relationship. I think people notice when you try. Keep your space clean. Give a shit about what you wear. Go to the gym, eat better.
